it’s black, it’s white it’s tough for you to get by
I’m watching some dvds about transracial adoption for our home study.
You know, in case we adopt a child of a different race.
It actually just occurred to me the other day that we could end up with a white baby.
That would be weird.
Anyway, there is good news and bad news from the videos (sorry, I was born in 1980 and they will always be videos to me, even though they are now known as dvds).
Did you know that dvd stands for digital versatile disc? That’s kind of silly sounding I think. Let’s stick with “video”.
So, the bad news (I always like to start with the bad news to end on a positive note): it seems we live in a world where race matters.
The good news: it seems that no matter how poorly the white adoptive parents of these minority adopted children handled the race issue in their families, they are still known by their kids as loving, wonderful parents. Just parents, not “adoptive” parents.
I think Michael said it best when he said:
I Said If
You’re Thinkin’ Of
Being My Baby
It Don’t Matter If You’re Black Or White
