tales from baby ballet
So Baby Swiss is taking ballet.
Well, it’s really called “Ballet and Movement” or something like that because she is a baby and babies aren’t very coordinated.
Anyway, it’s a class for 3-5 year olds and she’s technically 2 and three-quarters so she’s a little bit on the young side, but whatever her fake-aunt teaches the class, so we’re jumping in with both ballet slipper clad feet.
She adores her ballet class.
She won’t tell me anything about what she does during class, but she adores it and talks constantly about being a ballerina and going to the big church for ballet class.
One of the things they do during the class time is gallop with a stick pony.
My friend, the fake-aunt teacher called me after the first class to tell me about Baby Swiss’s galloping.
You guys, I cried it was so funny.
Now, I’m not as good of a story-teller as Aunt B and it is probably just not that funny if you don’t think that Baby Swiss is one of the most special two and three-quarters year old girls on the planet, but I’m going to tell it anyway.
She was not in the first group to go, so she’d had a chance to watch other girls do their galloping.
When it was Baby Swiss’s turn to go, she took the stick pony, held it over her head like a barbel and ran like the wind with a huge grin on her shy little face. She ran around the mountain and passed her stick pony to the next little ballerina as though she was just one of the crowd.
Ah, anything but one of the crowd, my little ballerina.
Today, I peeked in during the galloping portion of class and saw her getting ready for her turn, clapping her little hands along to She’ll Be Coming ‘Round the Mountain and when the little ballerina in front of passed off her stick pony, Aunt B started to show Baby Swiss how to put the pony between her legs and she just grabbed it and tore off like a ballerina outta hell.
I cried it was so funny.
I should probably work with her at home on her galloping, but it might be a little sad if she actually starts to do it right.
